Fire chief: Child killed in house fire in Colville

According to the Colville fire chief, the child was found shortly after firefighters were able to enter the home.

COLVILLE, Wash. — A child is dead following a house fire in Colville. 

According to Fire Chief Wayne Walker, firefighters responded to a structure fire with a toddler trapped inside at the intersection of North Elm Street and 2nd Avenue just after 8 a.m. Sunday, March 17. 

Walker said after crews battled the flames, they entered the home to find the child dead. 

Details about the child's age and if anyone else was injured are scarce at the moment.  An investigation into what started the fire is underway.
