Central Valley HS junior passes away after car hits him at I-90 crash scene

The family of 16-year-old Adam England said in a statement that he "loved adventures with his family, his faith and swimming."

SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. — A Central Valley High School student passed away on Monday, nearly one week after he was struck by a car on I-90 in Post Falls.

On Tuesday, Feb. 4, 16-year-old Adam England lost control of his vehicle and struck a barrier on the right side of the Spokane Street on-ramp, according to Idaho State Police. He was outside of his Subaru when it was struck by another vehicle entering westbound I-90 from the on-ramp.

England was struck and thrown from the road, police said.

Police said another driver traveling westbound swerved to avoid the crash and struck a delineator post.

England was taken to Kootenai Medical Center, police said. A GoFundMe campaign for England says he was believed to brain dead following the crash but began responding to stimuli.

He was then taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where doctors ran more tests and watched for signs of improvement.

England's family released a statement on Monday after his passing:

"Adam England was a 16 year old junior at CVHS who loved adventures with his family, his faith and swimming. He died with his family holding his hands at Harborview Medical today at 3:48 am. His family wishes to thank all those who have shared love, prayers and support though this past week. He is survived by his parents Ron and Cindy, his brother Bryce and his wife Rachael and his sister Kelli. He was loved by his large swimming community of friends and members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints."

Central Valley School District spokesperson Marla Nunberg said counselors and additional staff are available for students, adding that they are focused on caring for student needs and supporting England's family.

"Our deepest sympathy goes to the England family. We are respecting the family’s privacy at this time and request the same of others," Nunberg wrote in a statement.

The GoFundMe campaign has since surpassed its $20,000 goal, with organizer Micah Hudlet saying they will still be accepting donations in support of England’s family.

The GoFundMe campaign described England as a “talented swimmer, incredible teammate, and loved friend.”

“Our friend Adam passed away early this morning. He was incredibly strong in his fight, and we pray for comfort over the family at this time,” Hudlet wrote in the campaign on Monday.
