Coeur d'Alene Police deem devices near school not explosive, no criminal charges announced

The Spokane County Explosive Disposal Unit was called to the scene and determined the devices were not explosive.

COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho — Update: The Coeur d'Alene Police Department announced via Facebook that the devices found near Lakes Middle School are not explosive. Officers said the Spokane County Explosive Disposal Unit was called to the scene and determined the devices were not explosives.

The department said there are no criminal charges related to the investigation.

Original: The Coeur d’Alene Police Department is investigating potential explosive devices that were found in a home near Lakes Middle School.

On Wednesday morning, CDA police was contacted by the homeowner who had located two possible explosive devices. CDA police says the homeowner discovered the devices while sorting through property left by a previous resident. The homeowner took a picture of the devices and immediately called police.

The police department contacted the Spokane County Explosives Disposal Unit. The EDU determined the school was a safe distance from the residence and nobody at the school was in danger.

Officers secured the immediate area in the 1000 block of N 14th St. They are waiting on EDU to respond.
