BURLINGTON, Wash. -- Days after a mass shooting left five people dead, the Cascade Mall will reopen Monday morning. However, Macy's, scene of the tragedy, will remain closed.
Outside the mall, a memorial has grown of flowers, signs and candles. Sunday, Rachel Schuler and her family drove from their apartment across from the mall to pay respects to the victims.
"It still doesn't seem real," said Schuler, "I never thought anything like this could happen in our community."
As the mall reopens, the suspect in Friday's shooting is expected to make his first court appearance. Arcan Cetin, 20, is being held in the Skagit County Jail and is accused of shooting five random people inside the Cascade Mall.
This week, Skagit County Commissioners may also address the issue of staffing shortfalls at the coroner's office. Currently, most of the staff is part-time.
"My job is just to make sure the coroner has adequate funding," said Commissioner Lisa Janicki, "We have to do this part right."
