Officer involved shooting at Bonner General

SANDPOINT, Idaho – KREM 2 on Your Side has obtained both dash and body camera video from the officers who shot and killed a knife wielding woman this summer.

Police said Jeanetta Riley, 35, created panic by threatening to kill people with a knife outside the emergency room of Bonner General Hospital. When officers arrived, she reportedly refused to put down the weapon.

The Kootenai County Prosecutor finished his investigation into the shooting and determined the officers were justified.

The video showed there was just 15 seconds between the time officers arrived on scene and when they fired their guns.

The incident started around 9:00 p.m. pm July 8th when police got a call about a woman with a knife outside the hospital. Officers got to the scene within 2 minutes.

KREM 2 on Your Side obtained the dash camera footage from Officer Skylar Ziegler's patrol car. The video shows that as soon as he pulls up, you can see Riley get out of her car and start walking towards officers.

The footage from Officer Michael Valenzuela's patrol car shows him walking around with a rifle. Riley is out of view behind a truck. Then, you can see Ziegler walk out armed with a pistol. He then takes out his taser as he continues to tell Riley to drop the knife.

The video shows that when Riley charges Zieger he switches to his pistol and fires. In the video, you can hear Riley tell the police to 'bring it on.'

Both Ziegler and Valenzuela open fire. In the video you can hear five gunshots. As Riley falls to the ground, you can see the knife she was armed with fly a few feet in front of her.

An official reviewed determined that she was within at least 10 feet of the officers. After shots are fired, the officers then handcuff Riley and begin applying bandages. EMTs arrived within three minutes.

Riley's ex-husband has filed a $1 million claim against the city on behalf of one of Riley's daughters. He claims the use of force was unnecessary and excessive.
