One person detained following SWAT standoff in north Spokane

Police cleared the scene just after 11 a.m. Thursday and were able to get everyone out of the house safely.

SPOKANE, Wash. — Spokane Police have cleared the scene of what was a ‘barricaded situation’ on Helena between Wellesley and Rowan in North Spokane.

Police say there responded to a domestic violence threat to kill at the home in the 5000 block of N. Helena.

SWAT, hostage negotiators, and the Explosives Disposal Unit responded to the scene and assisted in the situation.

Police say there was a search warrant obtained, so police sent an EDU robot into the home out of fear of a firearm. The suspect eventually exited the home and was taken into custody without incident.

Ian S. Gilbertz was charged with felony harassment, weapons involved and  2nd degree unlawful possession of a firearm. Gilbertz was booked into the Spokane County Jail.
