Over 30,000 Avista customers at one point left without power following wind, dust storm

There are still several reported outages across the region as power companies work to restore power.

SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. — Around 30,000 Avista customers were at one point left without power as a wind and dust storm swept through the Inland Northwest on Wednesday.

According to the Avista outage map, thousands of Avista customers were without power in North Spokane County, including the Fairwood area and Dartford area.

As of Thursday morning, power has been returned to most people affected by the outage. 13 outages are still active as of Thursday afternoon at 3:30 p.m., affecting roughly 98 people. 

The Inland Power & Light Company also saw major outages during the storm across the region. In Spokane County, around 160 people are still without power as of Thursday at 3:38 p.m. 

There were also outages in Idaho near Sandpoint and Priest River. In North Idaho, Northern Lights Inc. manages many power lines. As of Thursday around 2 p.m., 111 outages are reported around North Idaho, affecting roughly 7,500 customers.

On Thursday morning, a school district official said the Boundary County School District canceled school due to power outages.

According to the Avista outage map, 169 outages were affecting over 14,000 customers on Wednesday night. 

Avista said the cause of the outages was the weather.
