NINE MILE FALLS, Wash. — Avista announced on Tuesday that it will draw down Nine Mile Reservoir on October 6 for maintenance.

The water will be lowered by 12 feet and will remain at lower levels for approximately one week, before returning to its current level by October 11.

Avista says the drawdown is necessary for crews to perform maintenance and repairs on Nine Mile Dam.

Avista says the water will be drawn down at a rate no greater than four inches per hour over two days in an effort to minimize erosion and other effects on aquatic resources.

The drawdown will not affect water levels in Lake Spokane.

Avista asks people to remember that water levels and conditions around the dam are subject to change at any time and encourages those on the river for any reason to use caution.

Avista customers can access water flow information that may affect Lake Spokane, the Spokane River and Lake Coeur d'Alene at Avista's website as well as on its 24-hour telephone information line.

In Washington, people can call (509) 495-8043. In Idaho, call (208) 769-1357.
