SPOKANE, Wash. — More Avista customers in Washington will have the chance to qualify for a lower utility bill.

Avista said the company set new income limits for its My Energy Discount program on Tuesday, October 1. Avista estimates that 90,000 more customers qualify for the discount, but have not signed up yet.

Avista said almost 51,000 Washington customers are already enrolled in the program.

Avista said eligibility for the program varies from each county and is based on household size and income. Avista said with the new income limits, one person living in Spokane County can earn up to $54,800 a year and qualify, and a household of four people can earn up to $78,300 a year and qualify.

Avista suggests customers enroll before the winter, and participants will keep their discount for two years before applying again.

“We’re excited to expand ongoing bill discounts to more people,” said Kelsey Solberg, Senior Energy Program Manager at Avista. “Even if someone didn’t qualify last year, they may now.”
