Avista customers can resume normal natural gas use following mechanical issue

The mechanical issue with natural gas provider TC Energy near the Canadian boarder was fixed Saturday night.

SPOKANE, Wash. — Avista Utilities told customers Sunday morning they can resume normal natural gas use after an issue with a third-party gas supplier's equipment Friday night.

According to Avista, the mechanical issue with natural gas provider TC Energy near the Canadian boarder was fixed Saturday night.

“We would like to express our sincere appreciation to our customers for taking additional measures to conserve energy,” President and Chief Operating Officer Heather Rosentrater said. “We are deeply grateful for our customers' understanding, cooperation, and efforts to conserve energy during this period. It was heartwarming to observe our customers take on conservation efforts that helped our communities make it through this challenging time.”

The company said the pipeline supplier's issue was affecting Avista's ability to supply natural gas for its customer's homes and businesses throughout its service territory.

The conservation request came as subzero temperatures moved into the Inland Northwest. Temperatures bottomed out at -10 degrees at the Spokane airport.
