ADAMS COUNTY, Wash. — An Adams County Sheriff's Office (ACSO) deputy crashed due to high speeds and wet road conditions while responding to a call about a suspected home burglary.

Around 6:45 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 2, ACSO deputies responded to a call of a resident who had awoken to find a man inside their home, lying on the couch.

ACSO deputies and Othello Police Department units responded to the scene and found that the man was intoxicated and believed he was entering a friend's home, even ringing the doorbell before letting himself into the home.

ACSO says the man was cooperative with the resident and the responding officers. ACSO says the resident requested the man be given only a trespassing notice, and the man was given a courtesy ride home by law enforcement.

During the response to this incident, an ACSO deputy encountered wet and slick road conditions near the intersection of Taylor Road and Bench Road. The deputy's urgency to respond to the call combined with road conditions led the deputy to collide with the guard rail off the road.

ACSO says the deputy was not injured and Washington State Patrol is investigating the crash to ensure transparency.

ACSO reminds people to drive safely by slowing down and using caution, especially in wet weather.
