ELK, Wash. — Seven people have been displaced and one pet is dead after a house fire in Elk on Sunday, July 14.
According to Spokane County Fire District 4, fire crews responded to a house fire near East Valley Lane in Elk.
SCFD4 said that the fire started in the basement of the home and caused heavy damage to the basement. The rest of the house also sustained heavy smoke and heat damage.
There were seven people in the home at the time of the fire, all were evacuated safely.
Two of three pets were also evacuated safely, but unfortunately, one died in the fire.
SCFD4 reports that fire crews were able to contain the fire and prevent any spread to neighboring structures or vegetation.
As of Sunday at 5 p.m., fire crews are in the process of “mopping up” the remnants of the fire and investigating the cause of the fire.
