1 dead following SWAT standoff and house fire in Coeur d'Alene

Coeur d'Alene police found one dead inside a house that caught fire following a SWAT standoff.

COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho — One man was found dead inside a house that caught fire during a SWAT standoff in Coeur d'Alene on Sunday afternoon. 

According to the Coeur d'Alene Police Department (CDAPD), officers responded to a call about gunshots inside a house around 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 28. 

Officers arrived near 1300 North 9th Street and found a man with a rifle standing outside the house. 

Officers attempted to call out commands to the man but he did not cooperate and went back into the house. 

As officers worked to secure the area, the house was set on fire and officers reported hearing a gunshot inside the home. 

CDAPD says that the house was fully engulfed in flames by the time the Coeur d'Alene Fire Department arrived and was able to extinguish the fire. 

When CDAPD detectives were able to enter the house, they found one person dead inside.
