BOISE -- After the kidnapping and death of Colorado 10-year-old Jessica Ridgeway, Headline News Host, Nancy Grace phoned someone who knows firsthand what it's like to be held captive -- Idaho's Shasta Groene.
In 2005, several of her family members were murdered, when convicted killer, Joseph Duncan broke into their home in Northern Idaho, and kidnapped her and her brother.
Shasta was the sole survivor.
'Can you give us -- Shasta Groene -- any insight as to what Jessica went through in those first moments when she was kidnapped?' asked Grace during Monday night's show.
'Going through what she did, she probably felt scared, wanted her parents at that time, and probably didn't know what to do, probably felt lost and confused.' Shasta replied.
Shasta was 8-years old when she and her brother Dylan were kidnapped and abused by Joseph Duncan.
Shasta was able to escape, and says she's never forgotten what happened. 'I actually remember all of it. It's too detailed to forget. It's not something anybody could forget.'
Today, Shasta is 15-years-old and is living in Coeur d'Alene with her dad.
With gruesome crimes happening everyday across the country, Shasta has this advice to give. 'I just say always take the safe route because you never know what can happen. There's always bad people out there no matter where you are. You can't even be safe in your own home anymore.'
Shasta's kidnapper, Joseph Duncan was sentenced to death for the 2005 murders.
Last year, an appeals court ruling called into question Joseph Duncan's death sentence.
Now, it's possible that he would be re-sentenced by a new jury for his Idaho crimes.
