SPOKANE, Wash. -- The Spokane Police Department said in April that they had seen an increase in scam and fraud incidents involving power and utility companies.
Victims said they received a phone call about an overdue payment from a caller stating they are an employee of the power company. The caller then demanded immediate payment.
A second type of fraud incident includes callers asking victims to enter their credit or debit card number to continue or reactivate their account.
The Spokane Police recommend that if you receive a call from someone saying they are from your utility or credit card company, you should call them back at a number listed on a bill or invoice before making any payments.
