SPOKANE, Wash. — The Spokane Regional Opioid Task Force will end as 2023 comes to a close, according to a Facebook post.
Spokane County and Spokane Regional Health District (SRHD) announced last week the decision was made to end the task force due to lack of grant funding. The program will end effective Dec. 29, 2023.
The task force was created in 2018 by Dr. Bob Lutz, the former Spokane Regional Health Officer. The Washington State Department of Health gave the task force an Overdose Data to Action (OD2A) grant to address the opioid crisis in the county. The task force was comprised of more than 60 local organizations and agencies, including the Spokane County Sheriff's Office (SCSO), Spokane and Spokane Valley police departments and Washington State University-Spokane.
"While the opioid crisis continues to grow, we have seen a great many successes over these past years and I sincerely appreciate all your help and support to make those happen," the task force wrote in a Facebook post. "I truly believe we have made a difference!"
