SPOKANE-- Last week was one of the worst locally for pertussis, according to the Spokane Regional Health District.
Fourteen cases were diagnosed in that time alone. That's double the number of cases reported during the same week last year.
July numbers appear to be smaller than recent months, but the SRHD says that figure will not be finalized until mid-August, and it will likely grow.
More than 130 cases have been investigated in 2012 so far, 55 of those being confirmed as whooping cough.
