SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. — Spokane Valley City Council is meeting Tuesday to discuss how to spend $1 million in extra COVID funding. Spokane Valley received $16 million from the COVID Local Fiscal Recovery Fund.
Back in May of 2022, the council decided these million dollars would be for youth mental health programs. Then, this past August, the council decided to give the funds to the Initiative for Student Wellness Program. The partnership between Spokane County Behavioral Health and East Valley School District helps students get the mental health help they need.
Soon after Spokane Valley gave the program funding, the Spokane County Board of Commissioners decided to fully fund it instead. That means the $1 million is free again. The council can decide to use the money for youth mental health still or start a whole new process of finding a different way to spend the money.
