SPOKANE, Wash. — The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office is asking people to stop calling 911 and Crime Check to report violations of the governor’s social distancing orders.
Spokane County Sheriff’s Corporal Mark Gregory said they don’t want to overload 911 and Crime Check with calls about people violating Governor Jay Inslee’s orders not to gather in groups of 10 or more. The governor also ordered the closure of restaurants and bars and asked people over the age of 60 to stay at home.
Gregory said deputies will continue to work to educate people about the order while they are out patrolling. He asks that people remember 911 is strictly for emergencies.
Inslee stopped short of ordering residents to shelter-in-place, but he left the door open for the future if residents continued to ignore the guidelines that recommend social distancing practices to curb the spread of coronavirus.
