List: Companies in Spokane area hiring during COVID-19 pandemic

Here is a look at some of the jobs available in Spokane and Washington state during the coronavirus outbreak.

SPOKANE, Wash. — Companies around the United States are looking for solutions to unemployment in light of the global COVID-19 pandemic. 

As jobless claims spike, Washington State's Employment Security Department has described an unprecedented demand for its services. 

The agency's call center has seen an 827% increase in calls. Earlier this month, there was a 150% increase in the number of jobless claims statewide.

Companies are hiring in Spokane and Washington state during the outbreak. Here is a look at some of the jobs that are available. 

Safeway and Albertsons 

Safeway and Albertsons recently announced that they are hiring in-store employees and workers for the company's Spokane distribution center. 

As of Monday, March 16, there were more than 500 immediate openings. 

All employees are eligible to receive benefits, and paid vacation time and holidays.

Fred Meyer

Clerk positions are available at Fred Meyer locations in Spokane and North Idaho.

The company says immediate positions are available.

Walmart

Walmart recently announced that it was looking to hire more than 150,000 hourly associates in the U.S. through the end of May to work in stores, clubs, distribution centers and fulfillment centers. This includes more than 2,000 associates in Washington. 

The new roles are temporary at first but may convert to permanent roles over time.

The company also plans to provide special cash bonuses for hourly associates. The bonus was $300 for full-time hourly associates and $150 for part-time hourly associates.

Walgreens

According to the company’s website, Walgreens said it was looking to fill roughly 9,500 existing full and part-time roles in stores across the U.S.

The primary roles they’re looking to fill include customer service associates (CSAs), pharmacy technicians and shift leads. Jobs are available in Spokane and Spokane Valley.

CVS

On March 23, CVS announced plans to fill 50,000 full-time, part-time and temporary roles across the country.

The positions include store associates, home delivery drivers, distribution center employees, and member/customer service professionals.

Prestige Care

Prestige Care, the operator of Sullivan Park Care Center, Sullivan Park Assisted Living Community and Legends Park Assisted Living Community, is looking to expand its team of part-time staff members.

Prestige is hiring hospitality aides and personal care attendants in Washington and Idaho. 

Applicants must be 18 years of age or older, and previous experience is preferred but not required. Essential duties will include helping residents and patients with non-direct care requests, such as delivering food, housekeeping and laundry services, and following environmental cleaning and disinfection protocols.
