PULLMAN, Wash. — A Washington State University medical student was named to the Forbes 30 Under 30 Social Media list.
Fourth-year medical student Joel Bervell was named to the list, which includes 29 other accomplished entrepreneurs, artists and others in North America.
The 29-year-old is known as the "Medical Mythbuster," helping educate over 1 million followers on social media about racial disparities in medicine.
Bervell's accomplishments and recognitions include appearing on the Today Show and the Kelly Clarkson show, being appointed as a TED fellow and winning a TikTok Change Maker Award.
“Being named to the Forbes 30 Under 30 list is a powerful reminder of how unconventional platforms like social media can meet patients where they are, reshape medicine, and spark change,” Bervell said. “By breaking barriers to medical information and highlighting health equity, this recognition proves the impact of thinking beyond the traditional. I’m endlessly grateful to the mentors and communities at Washington State University who have helped shape this mission.”
Bervell is finishing his fourth year in medical school and applying to residency programs, along with outreach work.
