SPOKANE, Wash. --- Whitworth University unveiled a new logo on Wednesday.
A departure from the school’s previous logos – a flag with a “W” on it, or a crest featuring a book and torch – the new graphic has three vertical rhombuses in the traditional Whitworth red color.
School officials said in a release the new logo is meant to “create a ‘U’ within the ‘W’” and symbolize the Holy Trinity and “towering pines of our campus.”
“The logo even provides a modern nod to the torch that symbolizes Whitworth’s unwavering spirit,” wrote school officials in the release. “There are additional ways to unpack meaning from this mark, and we are excited to see how Whitworth’s story continues to unfold through our stories.”
Whitworth is a private liberal arts university with nearly 3,000 students. It is affiliated with the Presbyterian church.
