Onions recalled for salmonella were served to Spokane Public Schools students, district says

The district says students at 12 of its 57 schools were served the potentially contaminated onions. All remaining onions have been destroyed.

SPOKANE, Wash. — Diced onions linked to a salmonella outbreak in 22 states have found their way to Spokane schools.

Spokane Public Schools (SPS) said Thursday 12 of the district's 57 schools received and served onions that were involved in a recall for potential salmonella contamination.  The district said the onions were received by the schools last week, but the recall was issued on Wednesday. Any remaining onions from last week's shipment has been destroyed.

Below are the SPS schools that served students potentially contaminated onions:

  • Audubon Elementary
  • Indian Trail Elementary
  • Jefferson Elementary School
  • Linwood Elementary School
  • Chase Middle School
  • Sacajawea Middle School
  • Yasuhara Middle School
  • Ferris High School
  • Lewis and Clark High School
  • North Central High School
  • Rogers High School
  • Spokane Public Montessori

The district said its Nutrition Services Department was notified of the potential outbreak on Wednesday, the same day the recall was issued. All recalled onions have been destroyed.
