SPOKANE, Wash. — The Spokane Public Schools Board of Directors are finalizing plans and projects included in a $200 million bond that voters may be asked to approve in just a few months.
SPS says the bond would continue the district's long-range plan to slowly and steadily replace and modernize old schools and minimize increases in taxes.
The $200 million price tag is significantly less than the $500 million bond passed in 2018.
School board members are considering two options. However, both include replacing Adams and Madison Elementary Schools, designing a replacement for Indiana Trail Elementary and modernizing Garry Middle School.
Other projects on the table include updating North Central High School and a new building at The Community School.
According to SPS, more than 4,200 teachers, parents and community members completed a recent survey.
Building safety and secure playgrounds were among the top priorities, followed by equitable resources and facilities across the district.
The district has not said how much the average household would pay in taxes to support the bond, and the educational program and operations replacement levy, expected to be on the February ballot.
School board members are hosting a special meeting at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday to discuss the bond. They are expected to finalize plans in November.
