COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho — North Idaho College is in the final weeks before a decision is made on its accreditation. The school recently submitted its official plea to the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities. The submission included steps the school is trying to take to maintain its current status. In that report, board members said they will undergo intensive training with consultants.
The board members are set to undergo one of those trainings on June 6.
Some of the other changes that were highlighted in that report were strides to work collaboratively with school president Nick Swayne. Back in May, the board voted not to oppose Swaynes request that a court permanently reinstate him as president.
In late April, members of the commission visited the campus to speak with staff and students about problems it says have been going on for two years. A report from that evaluation says the institution must overcome its current environment of distrust, poor communication, conspiracy and placing other priorities above the best interest of the college..
KREM 2 reached out to the school but an NIC Spokesperson said no one can comment until this process is over.
The Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities will meet again in June 23rd to review NICs accreditation status with a decision possible by July.
