The following is a press release from the Spokane County Sheriff's Office:

Early this morning around 2:26 am, deputies responded to the south 11000 block of Silver Lake Rd on a domestic violence call. Anna Schultz (25) called 911 stating she was arguing with her intoxicated husband. Anna's husband, Tyson J. Schultz (32), had also made threats to kill her.

An adult roommate and a brother of the Schultz's also lived in the Silver Lake home. These adults and Anna fled the house due to Tyson's threats. However, the 2 and 3-year-old Schultz daughters were not able to get out with their mother.

Tyson called the brother threatening to kill the kids and pets in the house unless he brought Anna back. The Schultz's had three Pit Bulls in the house, one of which was feared would attack law enforcement. Tyson made threats to release the Pit Bulls on law enforcement if they came into the house.

Deputies responded to the house to check on the safety and status of the children. They tried knocking on the doors, but were not allowed entry. Anna gave deputies a key to the house so they could retrieve the children.

Once deputies made entry into the house, one of the Pit Bulls charged them. The Pit Bull was tasered, but re-attacked the deputies. During the second attack, the Pit Bull was shot once with one of the deputies' side arm. Still, after being shot with a .45 ACP round, the Pit Bull tried to attack the deputies again. The Pit Bull was then shot and killed with a 12-gauge shotgun round.

Tyson was then taken into custody without incident. Tyson was arrested for domestic violence, making threats to kill, unlawful imprisonment, and malicious mischief. The daughters were found unharmed and sleeping on the parents' bed. They did not wake up during the shooting of the Pit Bull.

SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) -- Spokane County sheriff's deputies used a stun gun on an attacking pit bull dog. It didn't stop, so they shot it with a .45-caliber handgun, and it still kept coming. They finally killed it with a blast from a 12-gauge shotgun.

The sheriff's office says the dog was killed early Wednesday as deputies responded to a domestic violence incident at a home.

Deputies arrested a 32-year-old man who had been drinking and threatened his family. Two daughters, ages 2 and 3, who were inside the house were unharmed and slept through the dog's shooting.
