Woman killed in apparent drive-by shooting in North Central Spokane identified

A young woman killed early Sunday morning has been identified by the medical examiner.

SPOKANE, Wash. — The Spokane Police Department (SPD) reports a young woman was killed in a shooting around 1:30 a.m. on Sunday, July 7. 

Spokane Police responded to a call about a possible drive-by shooting near West Courtland Ave. in North Spokane, just west of Emerson Park. 

When officers arrived at the scene they found a young woman, identified as Mary Kapustin, had been shot. 

SPD reports that Kapustin died at the scene. 

The Spokane Police Major Crimes Unit is leading the investigation. 

A GoFundMe has been created to help the family cover funeral costs. 

Spokane Police is asking anyone with any information or video footage from the area who have not already been contacted by investigators to please call Crime Check at 509-456-2233.
