SPOKANE, Wash. — A woman who hit and killed a man with his own car was sentenced to 7.5 years in prison on Wednesday.

According to the Spokane Police Department, 28-year-old Alyssa Bray pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter in Spokane Superior Court.

According to police, officers responded to the area of West Sunset Frontage Road and South Grove Road on April 9, 2024, for reports of a possibly dead person on the side of the road. Arriving officers found a partially clothed man who appeared to have been hit by a car and was thrown into a fence due to the impact of the crash.

Shortly after the man was found, SPD said witnesses called 911 reporting that a truck was driving erratically near Highway 2 in Airway Heights. Police were able to determine that the man who died was the owner of the truck.

SPD said deputies with the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office were alerted to the same truck about someone reporting a possibly impaired driver.

Law enforcement learned in the investigation that Bray was walking on Sunset Boulevard when she accepted a ride in a truck with the man. Investigators believe Bray took over the truck and intentionally hit him.

Bray, who was 27 at the time, was taken into custody and booked into the Lincoln County Jail for DUI and attempting to elude a police vehicle.

Bray was sentenced to 90 months in prison.
