Execution date set for Idaho's longest-serving death row inmate

Thomas Creech's execution is scheduled for Feb. 28, 2024.

IDAHO, USA — Idaho's longest-serving death row inmate will be executed at the end of next month, according to a newly filed document.

A death warrant for Thomas Creech was filed in Ada County District Court on Tuesday. According to the warrant, the 74-year-old convicted murderer will be executed on Feb. 28, 2024. The warrant did not say how or what time Creech will be executed.

Creech has been on death row for nearly 50 years. In 1974, he was convicted of killing two people in Valley County and sentenced to death. That sentence was later reduced to life in prison.

In 1981, Creech admitted to killing fellow inmate David Jensen. He was sentenced to death for that murder and has been on death row ever since. Creech was also recently identified by the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department as a suspect in the murder of Daniel Walker on Oct. 1, 1974.

On Monday, the Idaho Commission of Pardons and Parole denied Creech's request to have his sentence modified to life in prison.
