SPOKANE, Wash. — The suspect in a three-year-old's death on North Ash Street in Spokane was arrested in Las Vegas early Thursday morning, according to the Spokane Police Department (SPD).

38-year-old John L. Jones was arrested on second-degree murder charges and will face extradition back to Spokane in the coming weeks.

The murder was initially reported on January 31 around 11:30 p.m. SPD officers responded to a report of a three-year-old, identified as Wesley Brenston-Studebaker by the Spokane County medical examiner, not breathing at a home on North Ash Street. Despite efforts from officers and the Spokane Fire Department, Brenston-Studebaker was pronounced dead at the scene.

Brenston-Studebaker's cause of death has not been released.

Major Crimes Unit detectives eventually developed probable cause to arrest Jones for second-degree murder following their investigation.
