Suspect in shooting on East Sprague Ave. arrested nearly a week later in Idaho

Forty-seven-year-old Dumont Whitt was arrested for first-degree assault and possession of a stolen firearm on Tuesday in Lewiston, Idaho.

LEWISTON, Idaho — Officers with the Spokane Police Department (SPD) have made an arrest in last Friday's shooting on East Sprague Ave. that left one injured.

Forty-seven-year-old Dumont Whitt was arrested for first-degree assault and possession of a stolen firearm the following week on Tuesday, Oct. 24 in Lewiston, Idaho.

The shooting occurred last Friday, Oct. 20 near Sam and Dom’s Bar just after 9:30 p.m. The victim was treated for critical injuries at the hospital. His current condition is unknown at this time. During their investigation, police developed probable cause to arrest Whitt and issued a warrant for his arrest Monday before taking him into custody the next day.

According to SPD, Whitt is a three-time convicted felon with past crimes including second-degree manslaughter, second-degree assault and first-degree unlawful possession of a firearm. The 47-year-old also has five prior gross misdemeanor charges, including fourth-degree assault and second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm.

Whitt currently remains in the Nez Perce County Detention Center and is awaiting extradition to Spokane.
