AIRWAY HEIGHTS, Wash. -- A suspect has been arrested in connection to a fatal hit-and-run crash in Airway Heights in May, the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office said.
Trevor Stephan, 24, was arrested on an active felony warrant by members of the U.S. Marshals Service Pacific Northwest Violent Offenders Task Force Tuesday night near North Cochran Street and West Dean Avenue, according to sheriff's office. He was booked into the Spokane County Jail for leaving the scene of a fatal crash.
Spokane County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of the crash at Sprague Avenue and Hayford Road at about 9 p.m. on May 16.
Deputies learned that a man was attempting to cross Hayford Road when the driver of a vehicle struck him. The driver initially stopped after the crash but later fled south, deputies said.
Medical personnel arrived to help but, despite their efforts, the victim died at the scene, deputies said.
Traffic investigators responded to the scene to collect evidence, deputies said.
