Stevens County deputy shoots and kills man after attacking a deputy prosecutor with machete

The Stevens County Sheriff's Office reported the suspect was shot and killed after charging a deputy shortly after the Friday attack.

COLVILLE, Wash. — The Steven’s County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) said a Stevens County Deputy Prosecutor was attacked by a man with a machete knife on Friday afternoon. 

SCSO reports the officer was walking to his vehicle near the Colville Courthouse when a man attacked him. 

The Prosecutor reportedly suffered a severe injury to his face, but was able to identify the suspect and vehicle to other officers. 

Later on Friday, a Stevens County Deputy located the suspect’s vehicle parked north of Colville. SCSO said the deputy exited his marked patrol car, the suspect got out of his vehicle and charged the Deputy with the machete. 

The Deputy then shot the suspect. Medical aid was given at the scene by responding officers and EMS. The suspect later died.

The Prosecutor who was attacked was treated at Mount Carmel hospital and received several stitches in his face. He is expected to make a full recovery.

SCSO reports that the Northeast Washington Independent Investigation Team (NEWIIT) was activated to conduct an investigation.
