SPOKANE, Wash. — Officers with the Spokane Police Department (SPD) are searching for a suspect in a carjacking attempt at a gas station on East 17th Ave.
According to SPD, the incident took place on Jan. 7 at 4:45 a.m. Surveillance video shows the suspect approaching the gas stall and hiding behind the gas pump as the 82-year-old victim was filling up his car. After waiting a few moments, the suspect walks around the pump before forcefully pushing the man to the ground.
The suspect then quickly gets into the man's car and attempts to start it, but fails before getting out and running off.
Police said the 82-year-old victim only suffered minor injuries, but told officers that he feared for his life.
Detectives are asking residents for help identifying the suspect seen in the video. Those with information on the whereabouts of the suspect can call Crime Check at (509) 456-2233 and reference case number 2024-20005351.
Police said the suspect is also a person of interest in other crimes and is reminding residents to never leave their keys or fob in their cars, even if they are nearby.
