SPOKANE, Wash. — Officers with the Spokane Police Department (SPD) arrested a woman for driving under the influence just minutes after arresting her husband for the same crime.
According to SPD, on March 2 around 12:10 a.m., 33-year-old Dallin R. Carpenter was stopped after an officer noticed he was speeding and about to turn the wrong way onto a one-way street. After developing probable cause, he was placed under arrest for DUI.
Thirty minutes later, Carpenter's wife, 27-year-old Hannah M. Carpenter, pulled up to the scene as he was being arrested. When she exited her car, officers noticed she was also impaired and placed her under arrest.
"Driving under the influence is a serious crime and takes a significant toll on both life and property every year," SPD said in a statement. " In addition to limitations in a person’s physical ability to operate a vehicle being under the influence also impairs decision making and other cognitive functions. SPD takes this crime seriously, devoting resources to address the problem and make our community safer."
