SPOKANE, Wash. — A mother and two children involved in an apparent murder-suicide last Friday have been identified.

According to the Spokane County Medical Examiner, the woman was identified as 43-year-old Michelle Asker. Her cause of death is listed as a gunshot wound to the head. The medical examiner ruled her death as a suicide.

The two children were identified as 10 and eight-year-old girls. Both girls died from gunshot wounds, and the medical examiner listed their deaths as homicides

According to the Spokane Police Department (SPD), a man returned home to a residence on Woodside Avenue just before midnight Thursday to find his wife and two children dead. Preliminary information indicated the incident was a murder-suicide.

In a statement from the Balboa Elementary school principal, she confirmed the two children were former Balboa students who were being homeschooled.
