The Spokane County Sheriff's Office said the deputy is in the hospital right now.

DEER PARK, Wash. — A woman was arrested after reportedly stabbing a Spokane County Sheriff's Office deputy during a welfare check in Deer Park late Thursday afternoon.

According to the Spokane County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to reports of a woman walking up and down the road, through yards and climbing fences on North Dalton Road off West Wild Rose Road. SCSO said additional callers told the sheriff's office the woman showed "erratic behavior," saying she was running around and calling for help.

SCSO said deputies got in contact with the woman on West Wild Rose Road. Deputies then requested emergency assistance before the woman was taken into custody. The woman faces multiple felony charges, according to the sheriff's office.

SCSO said deputies requested to evaluate the woman, later advising medics were also needed to evaluate a deputy who was stabbed.

SCSO said the deputy was stabbed in the upper left chest and was bleeding a lot. The deputy was taken to the hospital and was reported to be in stable condition. The deputy's family has been notified.

The sheriff's office said the deputy is doing well and had surgery. SCSO said the deputy is expected to be released from the hospital once cleared.

The sheriff's office said Sheriff John Nowels was at the hospital with the deputy.

The sheriff's office said the Spokane Police Department is helping with the investigation through a mutual aid request.
