SPOKANE, Wash. — Spokane came in second to last on a list of the safest cities in Washington, according to rankings put together by Alarms.org.
Tukwila is the only city ranked lower, clocking in at No. 73.
The website compiled the list by looking at the most recent FBI Uniform Crime Report statistics from 2018.
The report looked at cities that submitted crime reports to the FBI, and examined violent and non-violent crimes in those cities. They computed the total number of crimes, then created a crime rate as the number of crimes per 1,000 people.
Spokane's crime rate was 78 per 1,000, with a violent crime rate of 7.98 per 1,000, and a high property crime rate of 78.75 per 1,000.
The safest city in Washington is Oak Harbor on Whidbey Island, topping out the list at No. 1.
Seattle clocks in at No. 61. Spokane Valley is No. 65.
