COEUR D'ALENE, Id. — Lori Isenberg, a North Idaho woman under investigation for grand theft, was in Kootenai County Court Monday to enter a plea for a grand theft charge, but her arraignment was postponed to October.
Isenberg is accused of stealing about $500,000 from a North Idaho nonprofit. She allegedly forged checks, opened companies to launder money, overcharged tenants and purchased personal items with an unauthorized company credit card as executive director at North Idaho Housing Coalition, which works with low-income families.
Kerri Thoreson, the board president of the nonprofit, was at the courthouse Monday. She said despite losing half a million dollars because of Isenburg's alleged actions, the Housing Coalition is getting by thanks to many volunteers.
"It's certainly not a business as usual, but we've been able to sustain," she said. "...We've got a small board, but everyone is passionate about the mission. We just made it happen."
Isenberg's husband Larry went missing on Lake Coeur d'Alene in February. The next day, court documents said Isenberg sent an email to the members of the NIHC Board saying she needed to be “punished for what she did and she would cooperate by telling the NIHC everything after Larry’s memorial service.”
Larry Isenberg's body was found on March 1.
According to court documents, an autopsy report of Larry’s body showed “no visible signs of stroke or drowning.” A toxicology report from April showed a lethal amount of Benadryl in his system.
Larry Isenberg was in good medical care with his doctor Cher Jacobson, according to court documents.
Jacobson said, “There is no way Larry had a heart attack.”
Lori Isenberg is not facing any charges in her husband's death at this time, but detectives have named her a person of interest.
Isenberg's daughters are also under investigation for conspiracy to commit murder and theft.
