Airway Heights woman accused of abusing, killing daughter charged with more felonies

Spokane County prosecutors filed an amended information document charging Mandie Miller, 34, with 10 felonies related to her eight-year-old daughter's death.

SPOKANE, Wash. — The woman police believe abused her daughter leading up to her death is facing new charges.

Mandie Miller, 34, is accused of abusing and killing her eight-year-old daughter, Meela, before driving her body to South Dakota in a U-haul. Earlier this month, Spokane County prosecutors filed an amended information document charging Miller with 10 felonies related to her daughter's death.

Miller was originally charged with second-degree murder, first-degree criminal mistreatment and unlawful imprisonment. On Jan. 11, prosecutors charged Miller with seven more felonies: homicide by abuse, two counts of second-degree child assault and five additional counts of unlawful imprisonment. The first-degree criminal mistreatment charge appears to have been dropped, according to documents.

Police believe Miller and her boyfriend, 29-year-old Aleksandr Kurmoyarov, allegedly abused their adopted daughter, Meela. That abuse led to her death, according to police. Court documents show the couple then drove across the country carrying the girls' body in a U-Haul.

Court documents released after the couple's arrest in South Dakota detailed the couple's history of abusing their young daughter. According to those documents, Kurmoyarov and Miller consistently abused their daughter leading up to her death and never had contact with police or CPS.

Kurmoyarov took a plea deal with the state back in December 2022 and his sentencing is scheduled for April 3, 2024. Miller's trial is expected to begin March 4, 2024.
