Police say man broke into Lewiston home, assaulted family with lamp on Christmas

When a Lewiston Police officer arrived, he saw the suspect swinging a broken wooden lamp at the two victims.

A man broke into a Lewiston family’s home and assaulted several family members on the afternoon of Christmas Day, according to the Lewiston Police Department.

Sgt. Rick Fuentes said dispatch took an initial 911 call from a man screaming before the call was disconnected. When dispatch called back, a woman said a man had broken into their home on the 110 block of 12th Avenue and that her husband and son were fighting with him.

According to Fuentes, the woman said both her son and husband had head wounds and were bleeding.

When a Lewiston Police officer arrived, he saw the suspect swinging a broken wooden lamp at the two victims. The suspect was later identified as 31-year-old Robert C. Kay.

Fuentes said Kay began to fight with the police officer before he was put in handcuffs.

According to police, Kay forced entry into the home while the victims were not there. The victims came home and found Kay inside the house with two bags in hand, removing property and trying to leave the home. Kay armed himself with a large wooden lamp, striking the two victims several times and causing several head injuries.

Police said Kay also damaged several pieces of the family’s property during the struggle.

Kay was taken into custody for burglary, two counts of aggravated battery and one count of malicious injury to property, Fuentes said. All charges are felonies.

The two victims were treated at the scene by Lewiston medics and then taken to a local hospital.
