SPOKANE, Wash. — A man was arrested after he assaulted a woman who police say tried to help him near East Central Spokane this past Saturday.
According to the Spokane Police Department (SPD), officers responded to reports of a possible assault at Napa Street and Trent Avenue at around 7 a.m. on Saturday, June 8. SPD said officers learned that a woman was heading north on Napa Street at Trent Avenue when she stopped at a red light and saw a man stumble across the road and fall in the middle of traffic.
SPD said the woman called 911 asking for assistance for the man, who SPD said managed to stand up and go toward the woman's car.
The man in the road told the woman he needed water, and the woman left her car as another car arrived with another man driving, who gave the woman a water bottle.
SPD said the woman gave the man water, and he ran from the road and straight into a concrete wall, falling to the ground. SPD said the woman walked over to the man and offered to help him when he pulled her to the ground and started to strangle her.
SPD said the man who drove ran over and pulled the other man off the woman. SPD said the man continued to try and pull her from the car while the driver tried to pull him away.
SPD said the woman drove off, and officers saw injuries on the woman's neck.
SPD developed probable cause to arrest 28-year-old Robert M. Fisher for second-degree assault.
SPD said Fisher was taken to a local hospital and later booked into the Spokane County Jail.
