Kootenai County officials open dialogue on crime impacting quality of life in community

The public is invited to attend and have a conversation with leaders about how crime impacts the quality of life within the community.

COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho — Kootenai County leaders will host a town hall on Tuesday evening aimed at addressing crime in the community. The public is invited to attend and have a conversation with leaders about how crime impacts the quality of life within the community.

Tuesday marks the first ever town hall on crime in Kootenai County. Some of the talking points listed for Tuesday evening include:

  • How Kootenai County is one of the most popular drug corridors in the country and what they are doing to fight it
  • Overcrowding in the jail and expansion opportunities
  • Arrest rate in the community
  • Single biggest factor behind a rising crime rate and how it affects property taxes

County leaders including Sheriff Robert Norris, Prosecuting Attorney Stanly Mortenson, Juvenile Detention Director Eric Sheffield, Adult Misdemeanor Probation Director Keith Hutcheson, Juvenile Probation Director Bryan Alexander, Court Services Director Kally Young, County Clerk Jennifer Locke and Commissioner Bruce E. Mattare will all be in attendance.

The town hall will begin at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the County Building in Coeur d’Alene located at 451 N. Government Way, CDA, ID 83814 in Rooms 1A/B.
