GRANGEVILLE, Idaho — The suspect who was hunted by the Idaho County Sheriff’s Office all day Tuesday is accused of stealing three vehicles before his arrest in Middleton, Idaho.
According to an Idaho County Sheriff’s Office Facebook post, dispatch was advised around 10 a.m. that an Adams County Sheriff’s deputy was in pursuit of a stolen car headed north toward Idaho County.
The black 2017 Kia Sedona was reported stolen Saturday night/early Sunday morning to the Nampa Police Department. The suspect, later identified as Jackie Shayde Sedillo, 29, was reported to be driving the car and using a stolen credit card.
Idaho County deputies found the car in the area of the Sheep Creek Rest Area. Two sets of spike strips were placed on Highway 95 at milepost 234. Officials said the Kia drove over the spike strips and flatted both front tires. Authorities said Sedillo continued on until he reached the line of cars that stopped due to the pursuit. Officials said Sedillo rear ended a patrol vehicle and exited the car.
According to Idaho County Sheriff’s officials, Sedillo was brandishing a gun and forcefully removed an 84-year-old man from his BMW. Sedillo then fled in the BMW going north then south, before turning onto Lake Road, officials said. Idaho County deputies pursued the car and Sedillo was going in excess of 100 mph on gravel roads.
Officials said spike strips were deployed at Tolo Lake Road and Highway 95 but did not disable the car.
Idaho County leaders said Sedillo continued into Grangeville, turning onto Idaho Avenue, then on Court Street, which is directly near the Grangeville Elementary and Middle School. All area schools were put on lock down due to safety concerns.
The suspect continued on into Grangeville, where the BMW was abandoned and a Ford 350 was stolen. Deputies were able to catch up with the truck on Day Road.
Deputies said the truck continued on the backroads of Idaho County. The truck later became disabled because of the terrain. Sedillo then fled on foot into the area of Cottonwood Creek Canyon.
Nez Perce County Sheriff’s Air Posse launched a fixed wing and the suspect was located walking down a logging road in a heavily wooded area.
Idaho County Deputies, Adams County Deputies, Grangeville City Police Officers, Idaho State Police Officers, Cottonwood City Police Officers, Lewis County Deputies and their canine unit, Fish and Game Officers, US Forest Service Officers, and Nez Perce Tribal Police Officers continued to search for the suspect on foot.
Syringa Hospital Ambulance staged in the area to assist.
A tactical helicopter was also sent to the area by the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office. Idaho State Police SWAT team arrived and secured the perimeter during the night.
At 8:35 a.m. Wednesday, Sedillo was arrested in the canyon off of Long Haul Road on an Ada County Warrant for failure to appear. Further charges are expected.
