SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. — A suspected impaired driver was arrested following a hit-and-run crash in Spokane Valley on Wednesday.

According to the Spokane County Sheriff's Office (SCSO), deputies responded to reports of a hit-and-run injury crash at the intersection of East Appleway Avenue and North Corbin Road Wednesday afternoon. SCSO said callers who saw the crash followed the suspected driver to South Steen Road near the Appleway Trail.

Deputies detained the suspect, who was identified as 28-year-old Tyler L. Adams. While Adams was detained, the sheriff's office said deputies noted Adams' bloodshot and watery eyes, his slurred speech and "a strong odor of intoxicants as he spoke."

The sheriff's office said Adams was heading west on Sprague Avenue and did not stop at a red light at the intersection, hitting the passenger's side of a Chevrolet Suburban that was heading east on Sprague. The sheriff's office said the Chevrolet Suburban flipped onto its side. The sheriff's office then said Adams continued to drive west on Sprague, fleeing before turning south on Steen.

SCSO said the driver of the Chevrolet Suburban sustained what appeared to be minor injuries. Adams sustained abrasions/lacerations to his forehead and was taken to the hospital for extra treatment.

SCSO said Adams was later booked into the Spokane County Jail for felony hit-and-run with injury and DUI. Deputies also obtained a search warrant for a blood sample from Adams based on the suspicion of his impairment. The sheriff's office said Adams will be tested later.
