Former Ferris HS coach accepts plea deal in child sex case

Charles Eglet, 29, pleaded guilty to production of child pornography and online enticement of a minor as part of a plea deal.

SPOKANE, Wash. — A former Ferris High School coach pleaded guilty to charges related to having sex with underage girls.

Charles Eglet, 29, pleaded guilty to production of child pornography and online enticement of a minor as part of a plea deal. He faces 22.5 years in federal prison as part of the agreement.

Eglet is expected to be sentenced on May 21 at 10 a.m.

Eglet was arrested on Aug. 24, 2018 following allegations that he forced a 15-year-old girl to have sex with him at Northern Quest on Jun. 5, 2018 after meeting her on Snapchat.

According to a search warrant, detectives interviewed another 14-year-old girl on Nov. 15, 2018 who said she met Eglet on Snapchat. She said when he first started talking to Eglet, “he had told her that he had already knew her and said that they had gone to college together,” documents said. She said she corrected him immediately and told him she was 14. Documents show that she repeatedly told him how old she was.

According to the search warrant, Eglet used the same Snapchat account to contact the previous girl in the case he is currently in jail for. The search warrant was filed so detectives could look through Eglet’s phone in connection to the newest allegations.

The teen said she started talking to Eglet at the beginning of July and they met in person on July 4 at St. Peter's Church on South Freya Street at East 18th Avenue, documents said. She said she was under the impression he was 17 years old.

When he arrived, the teen told Eglet he didn’t look 17 and was “kind of scary and big,” documents said. She said she was clearly uncomfortable and he admitted he wasn’t 17 and said, “I am really 22.”

Documents said the teen told Eglet she was uncomfortable and that she wanted to leave but he kept talking her into staying.

According to documents, the two of them met up two to three times a week until August, when she started to realize “what was going on.”

“She started to think, ‘this disgusting relationship-ish with this older man is kinda gross’ and she wanted to be in a relationship, so she texted him ‘I won’t say anything, please leave me alone. I’m gonna block you and we will just forget this happened,’” documents said.

The teen said when they were meeting up they would engage in sex every time, documents said. She said he would promise to buy her things, like cigars and alcohol, but never followed through. If she wanted money, documents said he would give it to her.

She said she was typically sneaking out to go meet him when her parents were asleep. The teen told detectives that they frequently had sex in public places.

“She said that because she was underage, and he knew it, he would always remind her, ‘if we get caught, remember that you are 18,’” documents said.

According to documents, the teen said they had sex at his parent’s house and he recorded it on his cell phone.

Detectives said Eglet’s phone was already in evidence with Washington State Patrol. They had to request another search warrant since this is considered a new case.

Documents said Eglet is being investigated for sexual exploitation of a minor, communication with a minor for immoral purposes, third-degree rape of a child and possession of depictions of a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct.

In the search warrant, investigators say it may be possible there's evidence on Eglet's phone that could lead them to "other unknown suspects."
