SPOKANE, Wash. — The Spokane Police Department (SPD) said five officers were injured in two separate incidents on Saturday, August 17.

SPD said officers responded to reports of a disorderly person at a park on East 27th Avenue in Lincoln Heights during a community event. SPD said a woman was yelling profanities at children playing on the playground. The woman continued to yell at the children when SPD arrived.

When officers tried to arrest the woman, SPD said she kicked one officer in the head and scratched him. They also said the woman spit in another officer's space.

SPD said 33-year-old Patricia A. Schauman was arrested and booked into the Spokane County Jail for disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and two counts of third-degree assault. SPD said Schauman is still in jail as of 1:53 p.m. and is placed on a $3,500 bond.

SPD officers later responded to a possible DV in progress near Liberty Park on South Pittsburg Street near East 5th Avenue off South Magnolia Street.

SPD said officers arrived at the scene and developed probable cause to arrest a woman for fourth-degree assault DV after they learned she hit and threw rocks at a man. SPD said the woman also put the man in a chokehold.

SPD said the woman bit an officer and kicked another officer. SPD said another officer injured his back during the altercation with the woman.

SPD said 19-year-old Nike F. Labeaf was arrested and booked into the Spokane County Jail for three counts of third-degree assault, resisting arrest and one count of fourth-degree assault DV. As of 1:53 p.m., SPD said Labeaf is placed on a $5,000 bond.
