SPOKANE, Wash — A man accused of a downtown Spokane drive-by shooting over the summer appeared in court for the first time Thursday afternoon to face charges of attempted murder and assault.
Moses Adedeji, charged with two counts each of attempted murder and first-degree assault, was arrested by U.S. Marshals in late July at a North Carolina airport as he returned from the United Kingdom. The charges stem from a July 7 incident outside The Globe Bar on Division Street and Main Avenue, where investigators allege Adedeji shot two people following a fight.
Court records indicate Adedeji was identified as the shooter through victim and witness testimony as well as surveillance footage. Police say a bus shelter camera captured him driving the wrong way to catch up with the victims’ car before opening fire and fleeing the scene.
During the court hearing, Adedeji’s attorney requested bond be set at $40,000, emphasizing his client’s clean criminal record and efforts to better himself.
“Your honor, I understand the nature of these allegations, but when you look at his criminal record [and] what he’s trying to do for himself, I think a million dollars is tantamount to holding him without bond,” the attorney argued.
The court maintained Adedeji’s bond at $1 million. Prosecutors noted that Adedeji left the area on a planned vacation shortly after the shooting, a detail corroborated by his roommate.
Adedeji is scheduled to return to court on Christmas Eve.
