SEATTLE Colton Harris-Moore, the young man who gained worldwide fame as the alleged 'Barefoot Bandit,' has pleaded guilty to federal charges Friday.
Harris-Moore appeared in federal court in downtown Seattle Friday morning. He pleaded not guilty last week, but his attorney, John Henry Browne, said a plea deal with federal prosecutors was imminent.
The 20-year-old is accused of a two-year cross country burglary spree which included stolen cars, boats and planes -- some of the crimes allegedly committed while he was barefoot.
Browne and Assistant U.S. Attorney Darwin Roberts had previously said in court they hoped to have a plea deal reached by the end of last month that would provide the framework for resolving state and federal charges.
The deal would have allowed money from book or movie deals to pay restitution to crime victims, but prosecutors have said they're reluctant to let Harris-Moore sell his story.
'Colton never wanted to make a dime off of this and doesn't want his family to make a dime off of it,' Browne said last week.
There were reports Harris-Moore is seeking up to $400,000 and Browne said it could be even higher. Federal prosecutors have not commented, although they were expected to speak after the plea hearing at 12:30 p.m.
Harris-Moore still faces state charges in connection with dozens of burglaries in Washington state.
