COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho — Residents in Coeur d'Alene should be extra aware of who's on the other end of their calls this week.

The Coeur d'Alene Police Department has received six separate reports of a phone scammer claiming to be an officer and demanding money from residents.

According to police, the scammer is claiming to be an officer with the department and tells victims they've missed a court date and have a warrant for their arrest. The suspect then asks victims for personal info before demanding money to settle the warrant, threatening to arrest them if they don't cooperate.

"These types of scams are common and often include the suspect asking for money in various forms, including through gift cards or money orders to satisfy the warrant," CDA Police said in a statement.

The department is reminding residents that officers will never call them asking for money to satisfy any type of legal process. In addition, police said they "will only collect limited personal information for investigative purposes."

Anyone in Coeur d'Alene who receives a suspicious call can contact the department at (208) 769-2320.
